meeScan "Saves Staff Time"

7/31/2017

Picture
meeScan was recently showcased in the American Libraries Magazine.  The article, written by Carrie Smith on July 19, 2017, features library staff time saving technologies and new labor-saving services.

"Self-checkout is an established way to save staff time, but it often comes with a large investment in hardware and software.  Bintec Library Services has introduced meeScan, a mobile-based self-checkout system.

Patrons download an app (available for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry) onto their smartphone that, based on geolocation, identifies the library branch they are in.  After scanning or entering their library card information, patrons scan an item’s barcode to check it out from anywhere in the library."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Euclid Public Library Launches First meeScan Self-Checkout Service in Ohio

EUCLID, OH – For more than 80 years, the Euclid Public Library has provided the residents of Euclid and Northeast, Ohio with all their needs for information, education, and advanced technology. This fall, EPL unveiled its newest service to patrons, the meeScan self-checkout service.

meeScan is an awesome new self-checkout concept that utilizes mobile app technology and the library's WiFi. Unlike conventional static self-check kiosks, with meeScan, patrons check-out books and other items anywhere in the library using their smartphones. It is self-checkout in your pocket!  Available on iOS, Android, and Blackberry platforms, the meeScan app is free for patrons to download. It is super user friendly, and very simple to activate. Patrons can check out items in the privacy of their own devices, on their own time, anywhere in the library, and avoid waiting in line.

“We are very excited to launch this innovative technology to our patrons,” stated Euclid Public Library Director, Kacie Armstrong. “We value our patrons’ time and feedback, and want to make sure we’re aligned with their needs. We saw an opportunity to provide an additional barrier-free service to our patrons, and believe the meeScan self-checkout app will enrich their experience. ”

meeScan comes with smart desensitization stations that support library security to keep the library's resources and collection protected. On their way out of the library, patrons simply present their items to the meeScan stations; there is no need to scan a patron card again. Only items that have been checked-out with the meeScan app are desensitized. An email receipt is sent at the end of the transaction.

Peter Trenciansky, Director of Bintec Library Services Inc. commented, “Our service provides a modern and fresh way to check out items while eliminating traditional challenges associated with self-service kiosks. Our goal is to open the doors to new forms of technologies in libraries that will encourage patron participation and increase circulation. Checking out books is still the number one preferred activity in libraries. We want to encourage existing and new generations to be active library users and participate in supporting libraries of the future. We are thrilled to welcome the Euclid Public Library to our growing list of meeScan libraries!”

Super cool technology, supporting green initiatives, through a system that requires very little hardware, and is based on mobile technology, and email receipts. In addition to all the benefits the technology offers to patrons, the system translates into an affordable self-service for libraries that requires virtually zero maintenance. The system includes 24/7 monitoring and a reporting portal that tracks the number of mobile device transactions conducted per location per time as well as other valuable statistical information for the library.
